Saunders secures $30m tank repair contract at Yarwun (IQ)

Saunders International has won a $30 million-plus maintenance contract at Rio Tinto’s Yarwun alumina refinery at Gladstone.

Saunders said the scope of works included design, supply, fabrication and installation works to repair up to 16 precipitator tanks at the refinery.

Mobilisation to site had commenced, with works to continue over two years, subject to Rio Tinto obtaining the relevant approvals for the second portion of the project, the company said.

“We are very pleased to be working collaboratively with Rio Tinto and will be focused on the delivery of safe, quality and cost-effective solutions,” chief executive officer Mark Benson said.

“Securing this long-term maintenance contract in the mining sector is a significant milestone for Saunders and reinforces the strategic direction of the group and its renewed operating model.”

We look forward to working with you.
