Petrochemical
Petrochemicals are chemicals made from petroleum (crude oil) and natural gas. Petroleum and natural gas are made up of hydrocarbon molecules, which are comprised of one or more carbon atoms, to which hydrogen atoms are attached. Crude oil is the basic component to produce all petrochemical and petroleum components after a long process of refinement in oil refineries.
The sectors’ products support other vital industries like food, automotive, building, and construction, packaging, medical, agriculture and mineral processing industries. The chemicals and plastics manufacturing industry value adds in the order of $11.3 billion and provides over 60,000 jobs.
